Abu Dhabi
I honestly had no idea what extravagant beauty Abu Dhabi had to offer. I had been to Dubai a few years before with a couple of teammates while we were playing in Azerbaijan. Although the trip was lovely, Dubai just didn’t pull my heart strings like so many other places in the world have before.
My trip to Abu Dhabi, however caught me completely by surprise, as my husband and I didn’t book it for the destination, but to meet halfway and spend a few days together, including New Years Eve. I was playing in Indonesia and he was playing in Austria and with a few days free at roughly the same time, we took out our maps and decided on the halfway point. Abu Dhabi was warm, the flights were more affordable than other places, so we booked without really seeing what this destination had to offer.
Below is my photography journal from Abu Dhabi. I will be making a more extensive travel guide in the near future but for now I will leave with some of the most pristine and beautiful scenes I have ever experienced. With what started as a vacation whim, ended as a very inspirational and surprisingly uplifting holiday. Enjoy the stunning architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, pristine beaches, and plush and extravagant beauty of none other than the Emirates Palace. If you aren’t adding Abu Dhabi to your bucket list after these photos, I will be very surprised! So without further ado,
The Top Experiences in Abu Dhabi:
1.Desert Safari
Beautiful rolling sand hills as far as the eye can see, bohemian camps, and riding camels. Need I say more?
2.Sheikh Zayed Mosque
It is the largest mosque in the entire country but I bet it will go down as one of the most stunning piece of architecture you’ve ever seen. I was so blown away by everything about the Sheikh Zayed mosque. Every single detail was so unique and simply stunning. Beyond being the biggest in the country, it is also a key place of worship for daily, Friday, and Eid prayers. During Eid (festivals), it may be visited by more than 41,000 people!
3. Beach Clubs
Free beaches are nice but the beaches within the grounds of a beach club are divine. White sands, beautiful views, stunning pools and bar service… treat yourself and find yourself a beach club for the day. You can’t go wrong deciding which one to choose.
4.Emirates Palace
WOW. This luxery 7-star resort is definitely worth the visit. In a country where every luxury hotel is over the top, this one, built by the royal Al Nahyan family in 2005, stands out above all others. Fortunately you can visit the Emirates Palace for free but given access to only lobbies and exhibitions. The gardens, private beach, and beautiful rooms are just reserved for the guests. Make sure to wander the grounds inside and out to get the full experience.
5.Camels milk latte
I know this sounds reeeeal weird but it’s one of those things you just have to do. We’ve tried almond, hazelnut, soy, and now oat milk. Why not give camel’s milk a try too? If you think it’s gross but drink cow’s milk… you have some self assessments to do! We actually tried our camel milk lattes at the Emirate’s Palace in the outdoor terrace. It was lovely. They even sprinkled on some GOLD flakes because… when in Abu Dhabi. Be sure to also pick up some chocolates made of camels milk — the perfect souvenirs for family and friends!
